Show your support for sheep export phase-out.

The WA government has suggested that proceeding with a landmark criminal prosecution over the deaths of thousands of sheep at sea is not in the ‘public interest’. Fortunately, at the Federal level, plans are progressing to end the trade once and for all. Please write a quick message of thanks to the Federal MPs who support this compassionate policy and remind them how deeply the community cares about animals.

2,400 sheep perished on board the Awassi Express in 2017 – their suffering and deaths forming the basis of a landmark criminal prosecution against live export company, Emanuel Exports.

The exporter was facing 16 charges of animal cruelty under the WA Animal Welfare Act.

Set to begin on 20 November, it’s been revealed that the prosecution will not be proceeding, upon instruction by the WA Department of Primary Industries.

So far, the reasons given relate to ‘taxpayer’ and ‘public’ interest.

While caring people living in WA voice their concerns to their state representatives, it’s also important that Federal MPs keep feeling the weight of public support for the Albanese government’s policy to end the live sheep trade once and for all. Please write a message of thanks to the Federal MPs who support this compassionate policy, and reinforce why it must be implemented as soon as possible.

SPEAK UP NOW

Footage captured by a brave crewman on the Awassi Express in 2017 showed sheep suffering and dying from heat stoke – literally cooking from the inside out. Evidence documented across five voyages led to a ban on shipping sheep into the northern summer and underpinned a decision by the Albanese government to phase out the live sheep export trade.

Speak up now.

Every time we speak up for animals, a shift occurs in political consciousness that will benefit all animals in the future.

It was after all the voices of compassionate Australians that led to the Albanese government’s commitment to phase out live sheep export. Most importantly, this decision by the WA government doesn’t change the fact that the suffering of sheep in this trade will be coming to an end.

Please write a message of thanks to Federal MPs who support this compassionate policy, and reinforce why it must be implemented as soon as possible. You may also like to remind them just how much Australians care about animals, and why the laws designed to protect must be upheld.

WRITE MY MESSAGE

Show your support and appreciation for the policy to end live sheep export and ask for it to be enacted as soon as possible.
